Thomas Messel, the nephew of Oliver Messel, is a furniture designer and is responsible for the refurbishment of two of Oliver Messel's design projects: Dorchester Hotel, Flaxley Abbey. For anyone who is interested in either theatre or film design, his work from the 30's through the 60's make this book a must. Thanks to Amazon, it was available at a terrific discount for a coffee table size book. The book also includes Messel's architectural designs for the many Caribbean homes he was commisioned to create in his later years on the islands of Barbados and Mustique. The excellent text is by his nephew with profuse color photographs of his work in all his fields of endeavor. Definitely a 5 star publication.
It was received with book jacket in perfect condition.

Messel was a genius and fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.

The pictures are uniformly excellent and the accompanying text gives us numerous insights into the milieu behind his work. I felt not enough attention had been paid to his stage and screen work, because these are where he truly excelled. If there is any lesson at all for those in his trades, it is that no detail is too unimportant to be considered and seriously so. Art is about choices, selections, all of which have to refer back to the original concept. In this, Messel excelled.

beautiful book celebrating oliver messel's accomplishments

I became fascinated by Oliver Messel after admiring his accomplishments in architecture in Barbados and Mustique. This book is a lovely narrative of him, his years in the theater, Barbados, and his friends. Very informative, with beautiful photos. If I have any complaint, I would love to have seen even more examples of the British Colonial homes he designed and decorated. So incredible and theatrical in their way.

An historic book that should be read by all

I bought this book expecting it to be similar to the Musical, which is supposedly based on it. In fact it is very different, although equally moving and brilliant. There is tremendous insight here about who Americans were as a people when they entered into World War 2. The stories are touching and funny and much deeper than they first appear. Most of the stories involve the goings on among people in a military setting who are asked to just wait...and wait.... and wait until and if they are needed. When they are finally called into action everything changes, forever.
My only regret is that I did not realize when I purchased this book that it is an abbridged version, containing only 14 of the original 19 stories. I hope someday soon to read the remaining 5 stories.

Amazing content

I have been reading up on SAP Agile on the internet, but no where I could find all the practical information that the author has compiled in this book. It is a must read for people who are thinking of implementing Agile methodologies for SAP. Its one to just read the theory and not know how to apply to situations which actually arise on real world projects. But numerous such situations have been addressed in this book. That's what makes it great. I am extremely happy with my purchase and highly recommend this book.

Sean's book describes in detail why the Agile SAP Implementation Methodology leads to faster implementations and enhanced customer satisfaction. It addresses the shortfalls of the traditional Waterfall ASAP Methodology and provides a road map for success. It applies common sense to the daily work, fosters collaboration between project team members and business representatives and explains how great results can be achieved without detailing tasks to the dot. Being more than 20 years in the SAP environment, I have applied AGILE SAP to my last 2 projects with amazing results.

I've been leading an agile SAP project for a year now and there's nothing in here that we haven't already figured out PLUS a few things that simply don't work. However, if you've never done a true agile development project in SAP, this is a cheaper (at a high price for the book) alternative than hiring me to come tell you how to do it. Eventually, you'll still need expert care, but this will get you started.

Beckett is on the forfront of spiritual mapping.

Beckett's book, "Commitment to Conqour," pictures ministry not just in the local church but in the whole community. He challenges the reader through personal example how to positively attack spiritual strongholds. The church he serves and founded, The Dwelling Place, demonstrates the best of evangelical desire and congregational focus. Together, they confront the principalities and powers and see the victory of the Holy Spirit over demonic activity.
Beckett illustrates well how to unify pastors and churches to take one's city for God. We are not in a battle by ourselves but in a battle for Jesus Christ, a battle ultimately to be won by God Himself. By uniting 30 pastors together, they come together in agreement with God and claim the land.
Clearly, this is a must read for anyone who wants to take their city for God. Beckett's excellent teaching skills shine in this book.

This is not a book of theories or opinions. It is rooted and grounded in the real experience of a pastor and his congregation and the believers in that city. It is an easy-to-follow primer, peppered with Pastor Beckett's personal and congregational experiences germane thereto. Would that all believers had such a rich and powerful experience with the power of God to deal with a very real enemy.
