Wanted, editor...

This was a good book with a good story line. What keeps it from greatness is the editing (or lack thereof). Usually this is a dealbreaker for me. This book is so good that while irritating, the flaws could not keep me from wanting to read the rest of the story. There are misspelled words (or incorrect word choices), words left out, the present tense/past tense of the sentences was bizarre. With all that said, I still loved the characters and the story, and I want to know what happens next!

Editor needed STAT!

Great story premise, good characters...but the writer evidently didn't even check grammar OR word usage during the process. "On slot" does NOT mean the same thing as onslaught. To and too, due and do, bear and bare, where and were and wear...the editing suffered all thru the book, not just at the beginning. One character had a name change spelling in the last 2 chapters. Apostrophes and commas were inserted, or not, where it could make reading continuity hard to achieve. Random words stuck in passages that had nothing to do with the sentence they landed in. This is all stuff a proofreader would have caught.

Good read but needs a better editor

While I did enjoy this book (better than I thought I would) I really think who ever editted this book should be fired. The author had an engaging plot, likabe heroine & hero, a great conflict/resolution but my enjoyment of this book was almost tarnished by the multiple grammar issues, spelling and punctuation that littered this book.

Word usage such as 'your' instead of 'you're', their instead of they're...things of that nature. Sometimes, the only way I knew what the author meant was by content because of a mix-up in the word usage.

I don't wish to distract anyone from purchasing this book because this is a REALLY good read but just keep in mind there are editting issues.

La autora nos presenta la forma en que sin buscarlo, se introduce en el campo de la Tanatología. Profundiza en el conocimiento del tema, al ir al interior del pensamiento de los enfremos terminales. Obtiene de sus pláticas con cientos de ellos, sus experiencias previas a la muerte, las cuales, sin ser las mismas, coinciden en muchos aspectos.
Sin embargo, la parte no creíble de su autobiografía, que es como nos narra sus trabajos, cae en nivel poco creíble cuando describe la aparición de dos personajes de tipo paranormal, que aparecen y desaparecen, según ella piensa en ellos, y que la orientan y aconsejan en sus estudios tanatológicos.
Su redacción es ágil y ligera, lo que le obliga al lector a mantenerse interesado en el tema. El libro me parece muy interesante, hasta esa parte de su vida en la que se adentra a los aspectos parapsicológicos y de espiritismo.

Con una prosa llena de color da cuenta de la vida de la autora y de cómo va desarrollando su amor por los demás y la medicina. Alcanza uno a percibir su carácter independiente y a la vez amoroso. Excellent Heat X-Fer but So-So Mass X-Fer

I used this textbook for a few years when teaching a course in heat and mass transfer. The heat transfer parts are some of the best I've seen. Very clear explanations and great diagrams. The mass transfer material is not all that great. The authors are mechanical engineers but mass transfer is really the domain of chemical engineers. They're not as often clear (or even totally correct) in the mass transfer sections. There used to be a heat transfer only version of this textbook which might be a better buy. For mass transfer I would use any established chemical engineering textbook.

This is an excellent text for the heat transfer novice, both as a supplement to a class and as a personal teaching tool. The writing is easy to understand, and the chapters are arranged logically. The examples are well chosen and usually demonstrate how the theory and equations can be put to good use.
I have only two complaints about this text: There are far too few sample problems (and no problems with only answers provided) and the mass transfer is not taught in a useful way. The prior is a failure of many text books, but the latter is a major drawback. Incropera and Dewitt basically say "Mass transfer is the same as heat transfer, except use these units and equations." All of the mass transfer is tucked into a few chapters, as if it was an afterthought.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in the fundamentals of heat transfer, but look elsewhere for a useful introduction to mass transfer.

Excellent heat and mass transfer book

I thought this book covered conduction and convection heat
transfer well, but I thought a better job could have been
done on the section about radiation heat transfer. Perhapes
more examples of radiation problems could have been used to
make the subject more clear.

I thought the mass transfer sections were well written and
easy to understand.

The solution guide to the problems are not available to the
students. As with all engineering books, I think the solution
guides should be available to the students to promote quicker
and more efficient learning.

A must for any kitchen

I did not receive this version of the cookbook. Mine says 320 Italian Recipes. Turns out that there are two different versions. No matter what I love this book. It goes through everything italian. Tell you all about buying and storing all type of ingredients. The photos in the book are awesome. The detailed instructions make even the most complicated recipes are relatively easy. I consider my knowledge of cooking is above average but not like a chef. Even though I've prepared many Italian dishes I still found info in this book I haven't seen before. There are many recipes I can't wait to try.

The characters must decide for themselves the right thing to do. M.E. Kerr, Ron Koertge, Walter Dean Myers, Jack Gantos, and Rita Williams-Garcia are among the contributors. While these authors write well in the novel format, their talent is not always evident in this short story format. In Louise Plummer's "Bliss at the Burger Bar," the 18-year-old manager of a fast-food restaurant tries to comfort a teenage employee who is pregnant and has just been beaten by her boyfriend, but readers never find out what happens to her. In T. Ernesto Bethancourt's "Moon over Missouri," a teen who developed a best-selling CD-ROM adventure game is being sued because of its content, but the story ends before the case goes to trial. Other selections are equally open-ended, and most YAs will be left with a feeling of discontent, wanting to know what happens next. A Wonderful and deeply thought provoking collection.

As an eighth grade teacher I am always interested in good short stories that are appropriate for young adults. I enjoy reading to my students and No Easy Answers proved to be one of the most powerful collections of short stories that I have ever read. My students loved it, and many of them chose to read it on their own. These stories are not only well written and representative of the diveristy of our country, but also pertinent to the tough issues--teenage pregnancy, first love, lonliness, parent-child relationships and homosexuality--that are confronting our children today. If you are a parent, teen, or teacher who is looking for a book that makes you think and confront these types of issues then this is definately the book for you. I highly recommend it.

An excellent discussion tool for character education . . .

Given the recent trend toward violence with teenagers, this book provides a powerful discussion piece in the middle school classroom. The stories in this collection all have characters who face difficult moral delimmas. This can spark many classroom activities where students determine the best course of action. This gets young adults talking about character, taking responsiblity, and choosing the right path. Furthermore, the high interest level of the stories hook even the most reluctant of readers! It was hard for anyone in the room to put down.

Highly Inappropriate- Be careful before selecting this

This collection of short stories does indeed bring to light various moral dilemmas. However, the content is highly inappropriate for middle school students because of the graphic references to voyeurism, "penile enlargement", and other sexual content. There is no doubt that kids at this age may be exposed to some of this- but not to the extent of the descriptions in these stories. The stories will make students very uncomfortable and not because of the dilemmas so much as these references; parents will definitely oppose this as well. My suggestion is read the book first before selecting it for this age group.
