This book moves much more quickly yet highlights more of the fine details which are critical to passing the exam

Just passed ICND1 today (second try). Barely missed the mark the first time with only the Odom book. I feel, as many others have stated already, that it's necessary to use the two. Wendell Odom's book guides you very carefully thru the material and ENSURES that you have a very solid grasp of the necessary concepts. This book moves much more quickly yet highlights more of the fine details which are critical to passing the exam. I'd describe this book as sort of like an "on-the-job" manual. It's what you'd want in your desk drawer if you need to know what to do at a moment's notice. The Odom book is more like a course textbook; you WILL be prepared for the test, you WILL know how to configure a router and how to subnet. However, it's those fine details like knowing exactly what information one show command will display vs. another that can determine pass/fail. Overall. the most important thing, in my opinion, is to study using materials from various sources as every writer/instructor will teach certain things that another will not. I feel I would have failed the first time anyway using only this book.

No Network Sim

I have read on forums that this book is great to have for passing ICND1 exam. One problem. When I purchased this book there are 2 mentions at the begining about getting a network simluator from the authors website or sybex. I looked both and emailed sybex and found out they(Both) removed the network simulator. So now I am to find a supplement or look for another product. Just a heads up I found out today 2/2/17

one book to pass the exam

easy language, easy to understand, cover 95% of the topic. I passed the exam.
test bank is so slow to load questions. so easy questions in the test bank. just few question in the test bank. no labs to be downloaded and work around it.
overall rating 4 stars. I loved it but I hope it covers more of the topics like NTP that wasn't covered so well. and troubleshooting serial links.
