An in-depth history and celebration of over six decades of the Tele, now available in paperback.
The Fender Telecaster is a working-class hero and the ultimate blue-collar guitar. It wasn't meant to be elegant, pretty, or sophisticated. Designed to be a utilitarian musical instrument, it has lived up to that destiny. In the hands of players from Muddy Waters to James Burton, Bruce Springsteen to Joe Strummer, the Telecaster has made the music of working people - country, blues, punk, rock 'n' roll, and even jazz.
Now available in paperback, this is the complete tale of the electric guitar that came to work and continues to work hard more than a half century after its birth, still resonating with the purity of the first slab of swamp ash that was carved into that now-iconic single-cutaway design. Packed with more than 400 photos of players, guitars, and memorabilia, as well as profiles of the greatest Telecaster players ever, here, finally, is the first suitable tribute to the electric guitar that changed the world.

From the Back Cover
“Without the Telecaster, there would be a whole lot less music for the world to enjoy!”—Redd Volkaert, from the afterword Working-class hero. The ultimate blue-collar guitar. That is the Fender Telecaster. It wasn’t made to be elegant, pretty, or sophisticated. Instead, the Telecaster was designed to be the ultimate utilitarian musical instrument. And somewhere along the way, it changed the world of music. In the hands of players from James Burton to Muddy Waters, Bruce Springsteen to Joe Strummer, the Telecaster has made the music of working people—country, blues, punk, rock ’n’ roll, even jazz. Here is the complete tale of an electric guitar that came to work and continues to work hard more than half a century after its birth, still resonating with the purity of the first slab of swamp ash that was carved to that iconic single-cutaway design. Packed with more than 400 photos and memorabilia, plus profiles of the great Tele players, this book is a suitable tribute to the Tele. Dig in, and feel the music. “I’m still on the road and so is my Tele. Every hotel room I check into, the first thing I do is take the Telecaster out of its case and lean it against the wall. It looks so good.”—Wilko Johnson, from the foreword

Very enjoyable book, Tele fans will love it!
By Soul Stealer
I needed to offset the previous 3-star review with something more substantial, because this is one of the best books on the Telecaster that I've ever read. It deserves way more than 3 stars. I think any true Tele nut will really enjoy the book. It's not a dry history run or fact book, which IMO is great. The photography and design is top-notch, and I love how the book toggles between featuring sections on famous Tele players and just the instruments themselves. You can tell some time, effort and thought went into creating this book. Recommended!

Tele me why?

Nice book.
I bought this at the same time as "The Stratocaster Chronicles" which is a similar format. By comparison I think the other book is a bit better laid out and a much better history of the whole company (though obviously on the surface concerning a whole different guitar).
It's just if you're trying to figure out which years are the best (in terms of purchasing a guitar), a general Fender history is highly relevant since it's often management decisions that affected quality across the board.
The book is slightly disjointed because the general history and technical stuff is broken up by successive double-page-spreads which concern a single guitarist. On one hand it makes those pages self contained but if you're interested in the other stuff you find yourself having to constantly flick past the artist pages. No big deal really. In fact some people might prefer it that way, but I noticed compared to the other book (Stratocaster Chronicles) it didn't flow as well and the graphic design wasn't as paired-back and elegant.
I still really enjoyed this book. It has a lot more emphasis on players - (largely) country artists who have made the guitar famous. It has a separate section breaking down the various parts of the guitar and how they affect tone, etc, and it has great large format pics of the guitars.

Fantastic book about the telecaster , its players and history
By teleguitarist
my neighbor bought a car this summer that was painted the same "butterscotch" color as my teles - if you are like me and the mere color or mention of a telecaster gets your undivided attention - this book is for you.
Dave Hunter has put out a number of books - i own them all and enjoy them - this one , only 2 hrs in my possession is the best .
thoughtful yet not a cliche book as so many tele books are , the pics are great and the depth of players is amazing, and im always amazed to see how steve morse is NEVER mentioned in the tele books i read / own - he is the reason i became (and so many people) obsessed with teles - despite his frankenstein version with strat neck and 10 pickups.
buy this book.
